Development of a Wholesale Grocery Online Store on CMS WordPress

Development of a Wholesale Grocery Online Store on CMS WordPress

The wholesale grocery online store is a young project born from a wholesale trading enterprise in Kyiv. Until 2020, the wholesaler relied on other sources of clients, but against the backdrop of mass digitalization of all sectors, it was no longer possible to postpone the creation of a website. We reached out to Business Site on the recommendation of our client, and even at the stage of discussing the project idea, we realized that we would work well together.

How the Client Envisioned Their Wholesale Online Store

When the client approached us, it turned out that they had a fairly detailed vision of the outcome of our collaboration. However, when we began discussing the nuances of developing an online store, it became clear that some aspects would have to be neglected at the initial stage for the sake of results. This is normal for trade — it is important to launch first, start selling, and then add functionality as needed and as demand arises from the audience. Initially, we decided that the online store would have:

  • The structure will be built around a product catalog with the ability to add items to the cart
  • The design will be as simple as possible, not distracting attention from the capabilities
  • The pages will initially incorporate potential that simplifies further SEO promotion of the site
  • A personal account for users to track orders and store data will be provided
  • We will create a mass product upload interface and other useful inventory management functions in the administration panel

The process of developing an online store

Wholesale turnkey online store started with a detailed technical specification. We chose CMS WordPress as the content management system, which is excellent for developing such sites. To implement the necessary functionality, we used built-in features and connected plugins, including for optimizing the website’s speed and preparing it for subsequent promotion in search engines.

We did not aim to do everything as quickly as possible at the expense of quality, but we also did not drag out the deadlines — within a few days, the designer created and approved the layouts of all pages and the product card design. When the front-end developer started working, the entire functional part of the store was ready: the cart, personal account, catalog filter, and bulk upload of product items were all operational.

Upon completion of the work, we conducted testing, presented the results to the client, and after ensuring complete mutual understanding and that the results met the initial plans, we launched the site on a previously registered domain.
